Diani vs Watamu vs Lamu: Which Kenyan Beach Is Yours?

Kenya's coastal spots are not all the same. Pick your beach carefully.
The best overall option is Diani, which is located south of Mombasa. Diani has 20km of white sand beaches and a long resort area. There are activities available such as kitesurfing and snorkeling at Kisite Mpunguti. If you would like to experience nightlife, Diani provides that opportunity. In addition, getting to Diani is easy with the Ukunda airstrip. Therefore, families and first-time travelers to Kenya should consider landing in Diani.
Watamu is north of Mombasa, and has more of a quiet atmosphere than most other places in the area. It is home to a coral reef that is very close to the shore. You have many options for activities while you are there, including visiting the Bio Ken Snake Farm, as well as exploring some of the Malindi Heritage Sites. Watamu offers both a small village feel along with the option to stay at a boutique hotel. When considering how to book your Watamu Holiday Packages, keep in mind that if you are a snorkeler looking for fewer people selling items on the beach, then booking your Watamu Holiday Package would be a good choice.
A different kind of vacation is offered by Lamu. This is a historical Swahili city with many donkeys and dhows made out of wood. There are ancient streets designated by UNESCO and wonderful dunes located in Shela. Private cooks are included with many rental homes. Cars have been banned completely. Life is slower, slightly more costly, and very romantic.
Most travelers will combine a safari to Diani if they are looking for the Classic Nayora Pattern. Those who love the reefs of Kenya will combine a safari with Watamu. If you are on your honeymoon or returning to Kenya again, then you may consider combining a safari with Lamu.
